THE BOOK COVER DESIGN PODCAST EPISODE #18: Should You Choose A Gloss Finish Or Matte Finish For Your Book Cover Design?
In this episode of The Book Cover Design Podcast I talk about whether or not you should choose a gloss finished book cover design or a matte finished book cover. I also bring up an example of how you can see what your book covers finish will look like without having to have the printed version of your book right in front of you.
Each one has their own feel and look
You’ve probably held a book cover before that had a matte finish and if you haven’t then you’ve definitely held one with a gloss finish on it. These are the 2 main options for how to finish your book cover. And when I say finish I am not referring to “the end”, I am talking about the actual surface texture of the book cover. If you are looking for something that is a softer feeling then go with a matte book cover. If you want somthing with a slight grip to it and a bit of a shine then the better choice would be to pick a gloss finished book cover. Don’t over complicate things either, this is just one of many decisions to be made during the publishing journey.
